Read up and find out how you can prevent pimples and acne

Whether you are a teenager or an adult, pimples can be a huge hassle. Having pimples on your face can be really frustrating, and the fear that other people will see them can make you really self-conscious.

Pimples can develop when dead skin cells mix with excess oil on your body. This mixture plugs your pores and causes swelling. When bacteria grows on these, more infection may occur and pus may appear.

Many things can affect the growth of pimples and acne. Here are a few reasons why you might have them:

1. Touching your face.

Our hands are some of the most unclean parts of our bodies, as we touch many different things throughout the day – including germs and bacteria. You may not notice it, but you touch your chin, cheeks, and mouth multiple times throughout the day, transferring germs and bacteria from everywhere to your face. Wash your hands and face regularly with antibacterial soap to kill these pimple-causing bacteria and prevent them from causing pimples and acne.

2. Too much exposure to the sun.

Sun exposure is generally good for you, as it provides the skin with much needed Vitamin D. However, over-exposure to the sun can make pimples worse. The heat from the sunlight makes skin dry out, causing it to increase oil production that can lead to more pimples. Don’t stay out in the sun too much, and always make sure to apply sunscreen or wear a hat to protect your face from harsh rays.

3. Wearing sweaty clothes.

Allowing sweat to stay on the skin and clothes for a long time can cause bacteria to build up, which can result in bacne or chestne. Wear breathable fabrics to allow sweat to leave your skin, and change your clothes as much as possible after perspiration. Better yet, bathe more frequently with anti-bacterial soap to prevent pimple-causing sweat and bacteria build up.

4. Sleeping with dirty bedsheets and pillowcases.

Each time you sleep, you transfer dirt, oil, and bacteria from your skin or clothes to your bed. This can also cause pimples! Make sure to bathe or wash up before sleeping to avoid bacteria transfer, and change your bedsheets and pillowcases regularly to make sure that they are clean

5. Stress.

Having pimples can be stressful, but did you know that stress can cause them to worsen too? Your body releases stress hormones when it senses that you are under pressure. One of these hormones is cortisol which can stimulate the oil glands and produce testosterone that can cause increased oil production that clogs pores. In order to prevent this, avoid stress and try to release it with regular exercise and meditation.

6. Air travel.

Sitting in an airplane for extended periods of time can dehydrate your skin, which can cause oil, dirt, and bacteria buildup. To prevent this, regularly moisturize your skin and clean your face with antibacterial soap when on an air travel to remove bacteria and prevent bacteria buildup on your face.

7. Over-scrubbing and using dirty towels.

Scrubbing your face too hard can cause skin irritation. After washing your face, gently dab it with a clean towel to dry. It’s especially important to keep your towel clean as dirty towels can be a breeding ground for germs and bacteria. Wash your towels once or twice a week – or as often as possible – to prevent this.

How to Prevent the Growth of Pimples and Acne

As the saying goes, prevention is always better than cure. The best thing you can do to prevent pimple and acne breakouts is to follow all the tips above, and form the proper habits. At the very least, you should regularly clean your face and body to prevent excessive oil buildup and kill bacteria that can cause pimples.

Use anti-bacterial face and body wash like Safeguard Derma Sense, Safeguard Pure White Body Wash, and Safeguard Floral Pink Body Wash. They are proven to fight pimple-causing bacteria that may cause pimples, bacne, and other skin infections.

If your pimple breakout persists, consult a dermatologist to learn more about other treatments.
