Rainy Day Fun, Indoors and Out

Recommended 0 times

Just because it's a rainy day doesn't mean it can't be a fun day, too. Explore these activities to keep your school-aged kids entertained and learning, both indoors and outside. And don't miss our tips for washing up after the playing is done.

Make Kid-Friendly Modeling Clay

Making your own homemade modeling clay is one of the easiest projects around, and you and the kids can mix it up with ingredients you likely already have in the kitchen.

Here's what you need:30 g salt 120g flour 60 mL water Food coloringHere's how you make it:Let your child mix the flour and salt in a bowl, then add the water and knead and squeeze the dough until it gets to the consistency of clay. Then have your child knead in drops of food coloring, and it's time to play!

Handprint and Footprint Art

For a rainy afternoon of imaginative fun, handprint and footprint art can't be beat. All you need is construction paper, kids' water-based paint, markers, buttons or googly eyes, and glue.

Paint the palms of your child's hands or the soles of his feet, and make prints on the construction paper. Once the prints dry, turn your child loose to create funny characters out of the shapes, using the markers, buttons, and googly eyes to create faces-no two look alike!

Make a Splash

Your kids might be surprised but they'll definitely be excited when you give them permission to jump in puddles.

So whether it's sprinkling or pouring, pull on your galoshes and raincoats, and head outside for a splashing contest. See who can create the biggest splash, who can find the biggest puddle, or who has the best dance moves.

Take a Nature Walk

A nature walk in the rain lets your kids discover things they might not normally find. Look for earthworms and animal tracks, or birds and insects taking shelter from the rain.

While you're exploring, make it educational-talk about what makes clouds, how rain makes plants grow, and which animals like to come out when it rains.

Cleanup Time

Because germs live on every surface, indoors and out, it's a good idea to wash up after a rainy day of educational fun. Safeguard with GermShield+ removes 99% of all germ types during washing, and it keeps three of four germ types away for up to 12 hours of protection after hand washing & longer than any other antibacterial soap.
